Annie Meyers Drysdale
A Basketball Legend and Champion for Youth
Annie is a true trailblazer and inspiration in the world of sports. Raised with the “Dare to Dream” spirit alongside eleven siblings, her exceptional athletic talent and strong character set a high bar for any student aspiring to achieve greatness and make a positive impact.
A decorated champion:
- First four-time All-American women’s basketball player.
- Secured a place in the UCLA Athletics Hall of Fame.
- Holds UCLA records for season and career steals and blocked shots.
- Played a pivotal role in leading the first U.S. Olympic women’s basketball team to a silver medal in 1976.
- First woman ever to sign an NBA contract, demonstrating her groundbreaking status.
- Drafted first in the WPBL, leading her team to three championships.
- Inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as an individual in 1993 & an Olympian with her 1976 team in 2023.
Beyond the court:
- Currently serves as the VP of the Phoenix Mercury/Suns and offers insightful commentary as a color commentator.
- Recently received the 2024 Kobe & Gigi Bryant
- WNBA Advocacy Award

The Elevator in Education award is the Elevate Phoenix staff and board’s way of saying that educators are our heroes!

Most importantly to students at Elevate Phoenix, Annie is their friend, Annie! Alongside PGA Tour Pro Tom Lehman, she was among the first celebrity investors in the organization. As a founding Board member, Annie strongly believes in Elevate Phoenix’s mission of fostering long-term, life-changing relationships that empower urban youth to build brighter futures.
